Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, rape and colza seed exports fell to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a perceptible slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 187%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, Kazakhstan (X tons) was the largest exporter of rape or colza seed, committing 70% of total exports. Mongolia (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 20% share, followed by Turkey (7.7%).
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to rape and colza seed exports from Kazakhstan stood at -4.1%. At the same time, Turkey (+7.9%) and Mongolia (+7.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Turkey emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Asia, with a CAGR of +7.9% from 2012-2022. While the share of Mongolia (+13 p.p.) and Turkey (+5.1 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Kazakhstan (-7.9 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) remains the largest rape and colza seed supplier in Asia, comprising 77% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Mongolia ($X), with an 11% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Kazakhstan stood at -2.8%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Mongolia (+7.3% per year) and Turkey (+7.4% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in Asia amounted to $X per ton, reducing by -6.1% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 19%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton, and then declined in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per ton), while Mongolia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2022, the amount of rape or colza seed imported in Asia contracted dramatically to X tons, declining by -17.7% against 2021. Overall, imports continue to indicate a slight slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 29% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, rape and colza seed imports shrank modestly to $X in 2022. In general, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 36%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
Japan (X tons) and China (X tons) represented the largest importers of rape or colza seed in 2022, reaching approx. 34% and 32% of total imports, respectively. The United Arab Emirates (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total imports with an 18% share, followed by Bangladesh (7.1%). Pakistan (X tons) and Nepal (X tons) held a relatively small share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Nepal (with a CAGR of +13.2%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest rape and colza seed importing markets in Asia were Japan ($X), China ($X) and the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a combined 87% share of total imports. Bangladesh, Pakistan and Nepal lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 10%.
Among the main importing countries, Nepal, with a CAGR of +12.0%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Asia amounted to $X per ton, surging by 20% against the previous year. Import price indicated a slight expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, rape and colza seed import price increased by +77.4% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 48% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per ton), while Bangladesh ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
