The Asian market for raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, and cranberries rose modestly to $X in 2022, increasing by 3.3% against the previous year. The total production indicated perceptible growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, production decreased by -4.6% against 2020 indices. The average raspberry, blackberry, blueberry, and cranberry yield rose significantly to X tons per ha in 2022, increasing by 11% against the previous year's figure. Overall, the yield, however, continues to indicate a mild reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 18%. As a result, the yield attained the peak level of X tons per ha. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of the raspberry, blackberry, blueberry, and cranberry yield remained at a somewhat lower figure. Despite the increased use of modern agricultural techniques and methods, future yield figures may still be impacted by adverse weather conditions.

In general, exports, however, recorded significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when exports increased by 95% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2021, and then declined modestly in the following year.

In value terms, raspberry, blackberry, blueberry, and cranberry exports contracted to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, enjoyed a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 114% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.

Exports by Country

Hong Kong SAR dominates exports structure, reaching X tons, which was near 76% of total exports in 2022. Kyrgyzstan (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Georgia (X tons). All these countries together took near 15% share of total exports. The following exporters - Azerbaijan (X tons) and Turkey (X tons) - each resulted at a 4.1% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to raspberry, blackberry, blueberry, and cranberry exports from Hong Kong SAR stood at +52.1%. At the same time, Georgia (+135.0%), Azerbaijan (+128.4%), Turkey (+53.8%) and Kyrgyzstan (+34.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Georgia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Asia, with a CAGR of +135.0% from 2012-2022. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Hong Kong SAR, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Azerbaijan and Turkey increased by +60, +5.3, +2.6, +2.1 and +1.6 percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Hong Kong SAR ($X) remains the largest raspberry, blackberry, blueberry, and cranberry supplier in Asia, comprising 85% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Georgia ($X), with a 6.4% share of total exports. It was followed by Turkey, with a 1.3% share.

In Hong Kong SAR, raspberry, blackberry, blueberry, and cranberry exports expanded at an average annual rate of +55.8% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Georgia (+124.5% per year) and Turkey (+69.6% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Asia stood at $X per ton in 2022, falling by -5.2% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, posted a buoyant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the export price increased by 48%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

In general, imports enjoyed significant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 42% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.

In value terms, raspberry, blackberry, blueberry, and cranberry imports rose significantly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports saw a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 44% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

China was the key importing country with an import of about X tons, which resulted at 45% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Hong Kong SAR (X tons), mixing up a 27% share of total imports. South Korea, the United Arab Emirates, Japan, Saudi Arabia and Israel lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 20%.

Israel, with a CAGR of +96.8%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the import price in Asia amounted to $X per ton, falling by -2.7% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a pronounced decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the import price increased by 8.5%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2016 to 2022, the import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per ton), while Hong Kong SAR ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
