Over the period under review, the yield continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 2.2%. The global number of animals slaughtered for cattle hide and skin production rose modestly to X heads in 2021, increasing by 3% on 2020 figures. Iraq (X tons), Japan (X tons), China (X tons), South Korea (X tons), Turkmenistan (X tons), Lebanon (X tons), Vietnam (X tons), Israel (X tons), Afghanistan (X tons), Saudi Arabia (X tons), Kyrgyzstan (X tons) and Kazakhstan (X tons) represented roughly 81% of total exports in 2021.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Saudi Arabia (with a CAGR of +78.1%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest cattle hide and skin supplying countries in Asia were Iraq ($X), Japan ($X) and China ($X), with a combined 43% share of total exports. Israel, Turkmenistan, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Afghanistan, Vietnam, Lebanon, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 37%.
Saudi Arabia, with a CAGR of +77.9%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the export price in Asia amounted to $X per ton, falling by -4.9% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a drastic downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 19%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Israel ($X per ton), while Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Afghanistan (+9.4%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

The following importers - Japan (X tons) and Indonesia (X tons) - each finished at a 4.4% share of total imports.
China experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of raw hides and skins of cattle. At the same time, Indonesia (+10.0%), Turkey (+7.1%) and Japan (+1.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Indonesia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Asia, with a CAGR of +10.0% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Thailand (-2.6%) and South Korea (-5.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. China (+11 p.p.) and Turkey (+2.9 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while South Korea saw its share reduced by -3% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, China ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported raw hides and skins of cattle in Asia, comprising 77% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by South Korea ($X), with an 8.6% share of total imports. It was followed by Thailand, with a 4.2% share.
In China, cattle hide and skin imports decreased by an average annual rate of -6.9% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: South Korea (-12.6% per year) and Thailand (-9.8% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Asia amounted to $X per ton, jumping by 46% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a abrupt curtailment.
