The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 30% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, register book exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +4.3% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

In 2022, China (X tons) was the key exporter of registers, account books, order books and receipt books, constituting 71% of total exports. It was distantly followed by India (X tons), Indonesia (X tons) and Vietnam (X tons), together mixing up a 21% share of total exports. The following exporters - Turkey (X tons) and Malaysia (X tons) - each accounted for a 4.2% share of total exports.

Exports from China increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Turkey (+12.7%), India (+7.6%) and Vietnam (+6.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Turkey emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Asia, with a CAGR of +12.7% from 2012-2022. Malaysia and Indonesia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. India (+5.1 p.p.), China (+1.6 p.p.) and Vietnam (+1.6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest register book supplier in Asia, comprising 76% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by India ($X), with a 6.6% share of total exports. It was followed by Vietnam, with a 6.4% share.

In China, register book exports expanded at an average annual rate of +5.8% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: India (+10.3% per year) and Vietnam (+5.7% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in Asia amounted to $X per ton, growing by 4.2% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.4%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 16%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($X per ton), while Indonesia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+3.6%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

In 2022, purchases abroad of registers, account books, order books and receipt books was finally on the rise to reach X tons after two years of decline. Overall, imports, however, showed a pronounced contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when imports increased by 14%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, register book imports rose to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, showed a slight slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 6.5%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Japan (X tons), followed by Iraq (X tons), Hong Kong SAR (X tons), the United Arab Emirates (X tons), Yemen (X tons), South Korea (X tons) and Singapore (X tons) were the major importers of registers, account books, order books and receipt books, together constituting 54% of total imports. The following importers - Malaysia (X tons), Saudi Arabia (X tons), Indonesia (X tons), Thailand (X tons), Afghanistan (X tons) and China (X tons) - together made up 21% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Afghanistan (with a CAGR of +42.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Japan ($X), Iraq ($X) and South Korea ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together comprising 37% of total imports. Hong Kong SAR, the United Arab Emirates, China, Singapore, Yemen, Saudi Arabia, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and Afghanistan lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 38%.

Among the main importing countries, Yemen, with a CAGR of +37.4%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Asia stood at $X per ton in 2022, declining by -7.3% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.5%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when the import price increased by 11%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2021, and then dropped in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($X per ton), while Afghanistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
