From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Thailand (with a CAGR of +37.6%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Saudi Arabia ($X) remains the largest rusks and toasted bread supplier in Asia, comprising 27% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by India ($X), with a 13% share of total exports. It was followed by Vietnam, with an 11% share.
In Saudi Arabia, rusks and toasted bread exports expanded at an average annual rate of +8.9% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: India (+16.0% per year) and Vietnam (+14.0% per year).

For the fourth year in a row, Asia recorded growth in supplies from abroad of rusks, toasted bread and similar toasted products, which increased by 5.7% to X tons in 2021. Overall, imports showed a resilient expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 43% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
In value terms, rusks and toasted bread imports expanded rapidly to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +9.2% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +120.4% against 2012 indices. In 2021, the United Arab Emirates (X tons), distantly followed by India (X tons), Saudi Arabia (X tons), Kuwait (X tons) and Kazakhstan (X tons) were the main importers of rusks, toasted bread and similar toasted products, together committing 59% of total imports. The Philippines (X tons), China (X tons), Malaysia (X tons), Oman (X tons), Iraq (X tons), Hong Kong SAR (X tons), Indonesia (X tons) and Jordan (X tons) held a relatively small share of total imports.
Imports into the United Arab Emirates increased at an average annual rate of +30.7% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, India (+35.3%), Malaysia (+29.8%), Iraq (+25.1%), Oman (+24.8%), the Philippines (+18.4%), China (+14.9%), Kuwait (+10.4%), Hong Kong SAR (+7.7%), Saudi Arabia (+6.1%) and Jordan (+1.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, India emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Asia, with a CAGR of +35.3% from 2012-2021. Indonesia and Kazakhstan experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. The United Arab Emirates (+18 p.p.), India (+9.2 p.p.), Malaysia (+2.6 p.p.), Oman (+2.1 p.p.) and the Philippines (+1.6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Jordan, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia and Kazakhstan saw its share reduced by -2.4%, -3.1%, -5.5% and -13.8% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported rusks, toasted bread and similar toasted products in Asia, comprising 22% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kuwait ($X), with a 10% share of total imports. It was followed by Saudi Arabia, with a 7.7% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in the United Arab Emirates amounted to +23.2%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Kuwait (+8.9% per year) and Saudi Arabia (+10.2% per year).
