Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a modest expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 100%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X units in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, sailboat exports reduced rapidly to $X in 2021. Overall, exports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 24% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Thailand (X units) and China (X units) dominates exports structure, together making up 70% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Japan (X units), creating an 8.6% share of total exports. Sri Lanka (X units), Singapore (X units), Turkey (X units), Vietnam (X units) and Oman (X units) took a minor share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by Sri Lanka (with a CAGR of +47.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Turkey ($X), Thailand ($X) and China ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, with a combined 53% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Vietnam, Oman, Sri Lanka, Japan and Singapore, which together accounted for a further 25%.
Sri Lanka, with a CAGR of +32.6%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Asia stood at $X per unit in 2021, growing by 5.9% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a perceptible downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when the export price increased by 56%. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per unit), while Japan ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Vietnam (+10.6%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in Asia
Sailboat imports soared to X units in 2021, jumping by 26% against 2020 figures. In general, imports, however, recorded a abrupt setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 2,822% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, sailboat imports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports recorded a resilient increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 108%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
Qatar prevails in imports structure, amounting to X units, which was approx. 77% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Turkey (X units), comprising a 5% share of total imports. The following importers - Cyprus (X units), Japan (X units), Hong Kong SAR (X units) and China (X units) - together made up 12% of total imports.
Imports into Qatar decreased at an average annual rate of -10.9% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Turkey (+28.5%), Cyprus (+19.3%), Japan (+14.6%), Hong Kong SAR (+7.9%) and China (+2.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Turkey emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Asia, with a CAGR of +28.5% from 2012-2021. Turkey (+4.8 p.p.), Cyprus (+3.6 p.p.), Japan (+2.6 p.p.) and Hong Kong SAR (+2.2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Qatar saw its share reduced by -13.2% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Turkey ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported sailboats for pleasure or sports, with or without auxiliary motor in Asia, comprising 46% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Cyprus ($X), with a 17% share of total imports. It was followed by Hong Kong SAR, with an 11% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Turkey amounted to +48.1%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Cyprus (+27.3% per year) and Hong Kong SAR (+2.8% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Asia amounted to $X per unit, increasing by 16% against the previous year. In general, the import price saw strong growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the import price increased by 1,381%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure at $X per unit in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
