The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +84.7% against 2012 indices. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, self-adhesive paper exports soared to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.1% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +84.8% against 2012 indices. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

In 2021, China (X tons) was the largest exporter of self-adhesive paper and paperboard, committing 51% of total exports. Malaysia (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 15% share, followed by Thailand (8.2%), India (6.3%) and Japan (5.5%). The following exporters - Turkey (X tons) and Indonesia (X tons) - each reached a 6.2% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to self-adhesive paper exports from China stood at +9.9%. At the same time, Thailand (+11.5%), India (+10.2%), Malaysia (+9.3%), Japan (+7.4%) and Turkey (+4.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Thailand emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Asia, with a CAGR of +11.5% from 2012-2021. Indonesia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. While the share of China (+11 p.p.), Thailand (+2.5 p.p.) and Malaysia (+2.5 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Indonesia (-2 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest self-adhesive paper supplier in Asia, comprising 52% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Japan ($X), with a 12% share of total exports. It was followed by Malaysia, with a 12% share.

In China, self-adhesive paper exports expanded at an average annual rate of +12.3% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Japan (+8.3% per year) and Malaysia (+6.9% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2013; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per ton), while Thailand ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

For the sixth year in a row, Asia recorded growth in supplies from abroad of self-adhesive paper and paperboard, which increased by 11% to X tons in 2021. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.5% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.3% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed in certain years. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

In 2021, India (X tons), distantly followed by Vietnam (X tons), Turkey (X tons), Indonesia (X tons), Japan (X tons), the United Arab Emirates (X tons), Saudi Arabia (X tons) and South Korea (X tons) represented the key importers of self-adhesive paper and paperboard, together generating 65% of total imports. The following importers - Thailand (X tons), Pakistan (X tons), China (X tons), Malaysia (X tons) and Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons) - together made up 18% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to self-adhesive paper imports into India stood at +8.5%. At the same time, South Korea (+14.4%), Taiwan (Chinese) (+14.1%), Vietnam (+11.4%), Pakistan (+6.6%), Indonesia (+5.8%), the United Arab Emirates (+5.4%), Turkey (+4.9%), Malaysia (+4.2%), Thailand (+2.8%) and Saudi Arabia (+2.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, South Korea emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Asia, with a CAGR of +14.4% from 2012-2021. Japan experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, China (-6.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of India, Vietnam, South Korea and Taiwan (Chinese) increased by +5.9, +4.2, +2.5 and +1.5 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Vietnam ($X), Japan ($X) and China ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together comprising 27% of total imports. These countries were followed by India, Turkey, Indonesia, Thailand, South Korea, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Malaysia, Taiwan (Chinese) and Pakistan, which together accounted for a further 52%.

South Korea, with a CAGR of +13.8%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 4.5% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, showed a mild curtailment. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
