Saudi Arabia was the main exporter of sheep or lamb skin leather in Asia, with the volume of exports amounting to X square meters, which was approx. 31% of total exports in 2021. China (X square meters) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Uzbekistan (X square meters), the United Arab Emirates (X square meters), Iraq (X square meters), Turkey (X square meters) and Jordan (X square meters). All these countries together held near 54% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to sheep leather exports from Saudi Arabia stood at -10.0%. At the same time, China (+50.8%), Turkey (+21.3%), Uzbekistan (+14.7%), Jordan (+3.7%) and the United Arab Emirates (+3.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, China emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Asia, with a CAGR of +50.8% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Iraq (-4.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of China, Uzbekistan, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates and Jordan increased by +14, +9.1, +6.6, +5 and +3 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, China ($X), Saudi Arabia ($X) and Turkey ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, together accounting for 67% of total exports.
China, with a CAGR of +47.3%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Asia stood at $X per square meter in 2021, dropping by -5.6% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a perceptible shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 an increase of 12%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per square meter. From 2015 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per square meter), while Uzbekistan ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (-2.3%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Over the period under review, imports saw a deep downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 35%. The volume of import peaked at X square meters in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, sheep leather imports declined markedly to $X in 2021. Overall, imports recorded a abrupt curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 5.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, India (X square meters) and China (X square meters) represented the major importers of sheep or lamb skin leather in Asia, together mixing up 73% of total imports. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 24%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per square meter. From 2015 to 2021, the import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($X per square meter), while Yemen ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.
