For the third year in a row, Asia recorded growth in overseas shipments of sheets, panels and tiles of cellulose fibrecement, which increased by 9.3% to X tons in 2022. In general, exports showed prominent growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 38% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

In value terms, cellulose fibrecement sheet exports rose significantly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports posted strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 25% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.

Exports by Country

In 2022, Thailand (X tons) was the key exporter of sheets, panels and tiles of cellulose fibrecement, making up 59% of total exports. It was distantly followed by China (X tons), India (X tons), Malaysia (X tons) and Indonesia (X tons), together generating a 36% share of total exports. Turkey (X tons) held a relatively small share of total exports.

Exports from Thailand increased at an average annual rate of +19.4% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Indonesia (+37.9%), India (+14.6%) and China (+5.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Indonesia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Asia, with a CAGR of +37.9% from 2012-2022. Turkey experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Malaysia (-5.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Thailand, Indonesia and India increased by +33, +5.9 and +2.7 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, the largest cellulose fibrecement sheet supplying countries in Asia were Thailand ($X), China ($X) and Turkey ($X), together accounting for 78% of total exports. Malaysia, India and Indonesia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 18%.

In terms of the main exporting countries, Indonesia, with a CAGR of +35.6%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in Asia amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 2.8% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when the export price increased by 10%. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while Thailand ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports in Asia

In 2022, purchases abroad of sheets, panels and tiles of cellulose fibrecement increased by 8.6% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. Total imports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +8.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +29.3% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 37%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, cellulose fibrecement sheet imports soared to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +8.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +49.9% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 29% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.

The Philippines represented the key importer of sheets, panels and tiles of cellulose fibrecement in Asia, with the volume of imports resulting at X tons, which was near 43% of total imports in 2022. Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by South Korea (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 17% share of total imports. The United Arab Emirates (X tons), Nepal (X tons), Vietnam (X tons), Indonesia (X tons), Malaysia (X tons), Qatar (X tons), Myanmar (X tons), Lao People's Democratic Republic (X tons), Pakistan (X tons) and Cambodia (X tons) took a relatively small share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to cellulose fibrecement sheet imports into the Philippines stood at +15.5%. At the same time, Myanmar (+40.1%), Pakistan (+28.5%), Qatar (+21.3%), Nepal (+19.9%), South Korea (+11.4%), Cambodia (+5.2%), Taiwan (Chinese) (+4.7%), Indonesia (+3.7%), Malaysia (+3.0%), the United Arab Emirates (+3.0%) and Vietnam (+2.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Myanmar emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Asia, with a CAGR of +40.1% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Lao People's Democratic Republic (-12.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of the Philippines, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Qatar and South Korea increased by +43, +2.3, +2, +1.9, +1.7 and +1.6 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the Philippines ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported sheets, panels and tiles of cellulose fibrecement in Asia, comprising 29% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by South Korea ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by Vietnam, with a 7.2% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in the Philippines stood at +18.9%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: South Korea (+12.9% per year) and Vietnam (+8.9% per year).
