Moreover, Brunei Darussalam emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Asia, with a CAGR of +18.8% from 2012-2022. By contrast, South Korea (-1.4%), Japan (-1.9%), Malaysia (-4.1%) and Hong Kong SAR (-8.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of the United Arab Emirates (+16 p.p.), China (+3.5 p.p.), Singapore (+3.1 p.p.) and Brunei Darussalam (+1.8 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Malaysia (-2.1 p.p.), Japan (-2.5 p.p.) and Hong Kong SAR (-4.1 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest silk shawl and scarf importing markets in Asia were China ($X), Hong Kong SAR ($X) and South Korea ($X), together comprising 59% of total imports. Japan, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, Malaysia, Brunei Darussalam and Yemen lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 26%.
