Nepal dominates exports structure, recording X tons, which was approx. 70% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by China (X tons), Bangladesh (X tons) and Thailand (X tons), together making up a 20% share of total exports. Turkey (X tons) took a little share of total exports.
Exports from Nepal decreased at an average annual rate of -8.1% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Thailand (+27.0%) and Turkey (+4.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Thailand emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Asia, with a CAGR of +27.0% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Bangladesh (-1.6%) and China (-5.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Thailand, Bangladesh and Turkey increased by +5.5, +2.6 and +2.4 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Nepal ($X) remains the largest sisal binder supplier in Asia, comprising 49% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by China ($X), with a 19% share of total exports. It was followed by Bangladesh, with a 10% share.
In Nepal, sisal binder exports contracted by an average annual rate of -4.3% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: China (-3.6% per year) and Bangladesh (+3.2% per year).

The export price in Asia stood at $X per ton in 2022, falling by -3.4% against the previous year. Export price indicated a pronounced increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, sisal binder export price decreased by -3.7% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 34% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2020; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.

In value terms, sisal binder imports rose remarkably to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a pronounced shrinkage. In 2022, Japan (X tons), distantly followed by Lao People's Democratic Republic (X tons), Indonesia (X tons), Cambodia (X tons) and Vietnam (X tons) represented the major importers of sisal binder or baler (agricultural) twines, together committing 52% of total imports. Yemen (X tons), Turkey (X tons), Nepal (X tons), Afghanistan (X tons), South Korea (X tons), Oman (X tons), the United Arab Emirates (X tons) and Lebanon (X tons) held a minor share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Cambodia (with a CAGR of +37.9%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest sisal binder importing markets in Asia were Indonesia ($X), Japan ($X) and Lao People's Democratic Republic ($X), together accounting for 50% of total imports. In terms of the main importing countries, Cambodia, with a CAGR of +35.0%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The import price in Asia stood at $X per ton in 2022, picking up by 4.3% against the previous year. Import price indicated measured growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, sisal binder import price increased by +17.1% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 an increase of 56%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($X per ton), while Nepal ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
