In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest smoked fish other than salmon and herring supplier in Asia, comprising 54% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by China ($X), with a 21% share of total exports. It was followed by Indonesia, with an 11% share.
In Turkey, exports of smoked fish other than salmon and herring expanded at an average annual rate of +7.7% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: China (+8.5% per year) and Indonesia (-9.4% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 9.8% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +7.4%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the export price increased by 63%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.

In 2021, the amount of smoked fish other than salmon and herring imported in Asia reduced to X tons, dropping by -5.5% against 2020 figures. In general, imports recorded a abrupt setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 16% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, imports of smoked fish other than salmon and herring amounted to $X in 2021. Overall, imports continue to indicate a deep slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 10% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports of attained the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
Japan (X tons) and South Korea (X tons) were the major importers of smoked fish other than salmon and herring in 2021, accounting for approx. 33% and 22% of total imports, respectively. Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons) held a 14% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Israel (5.5%). From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Hong Kong SAR (with a CAGR of +16.5%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Japan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported smoked fish other than salmon and herring in Asia, comprising 49% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by South Korea ($X), with a 19% share of total imports. It was followed by Israel, with a 7.1% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Japan amounted to -13.2%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: South Korea (+12.5% per year) and Israel (+15.2% per year).
Import Prices by Country

The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the import price increased by 11% against the previous year. There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per ton), while Bhutan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Brunei Darussalam (+4.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
