The Asian grape wine spirits market rose notably to $X in 2022, picking up by 5.6% against the previous year. Overall, consumption, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. In 2022, approx. X litres of spirits obtained from distilled grape wine or grape marc were imported in Asia; with a decrease of -12.5% against 2021 figures. Total imports indicated a tangible expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +43.1% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 64%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X litres in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, grape wine spirits imports fell slightly to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 51% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then contracted in the following year.

Imports by Country

The Philippines was the key importer of spirits obtained from distilled grape wine or grape marc in Asia, with the volume of imports accounting for X litres, which was near 48% of total imports in 2022. China (X litres) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Singapore (X litres). All these countries together held approx. 31% share of total imports. The United Arab Emirates (X litres), Kazakhstan (X litres), Malaysia (X litres) and Hong Kong SAR (X litres) followed a long way behind the leaders.

The Philippines was also the fastest-growing in terms of the spirits obtained from distilled grape wine or grape marc imports, with a CAGR of +25.9% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, the United Arab Emirates (+11.2%), Kazakhstan (+8.2%) and China (+2.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Singapore (-2.5%), Hong Kong SAR (-8.7%) and Malaysia (-9.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The Philippines (+40 p.p.) and the United Arab Emirates (+1.8 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Hong Kong SAR, China, Malaysia and Singapore saw its share reduced by -4.8%, -6%, -7.6% and -9.6% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, China ($X), Singapore ($X) and Hong Kong SAR ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 81% share of total imports. These countries were followed by the Philippines, the United Arab Emirates, Malaysia and Kazakhstan, which together accounted for a further 9%.

In terms of the main importing countries, the Philippines, with a CAGR of +27.4%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in Asia amounted to $X per litre, picking up by 9.7% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a noticeable contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 an increase of 37%. The level of import peaked at $X per litre in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per litre), while the Philippines ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Singapore (+7.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
