Frozen Sweet Corn Market Size in Asia

After four years of decline, the Asian frozen sweet corn market increased by 0.6% to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, consumption showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the market value increased by 6.9% against the previous year. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of the market remained at a lower figure.

Exports in Asia

Frozen sweet corn exports surged to X tons in 2021, with an increase of 16% compared with 2020 figures. Overall, exports recorded a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when exports increased by 63% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, frozen sweet corn exports rose notably to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +5.1% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

In 2021, China (X tons) was the largest exporter of frozen sweet corn, constituting 37% of total exports. Thailand (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 21% share, followed by India (20%), Vietnam (7.2%) and Turkey (6.9%). Malaysia (X tons) and Pakistan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Pakistan (with a CAGR of +66.7%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 70%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2017 to 2021, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($X per ton), while Pakistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, imports of frozen sweet corn in Asia expanded to X tons, with an increase of 4.1% on the previous year's figure. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.0% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 9%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Japan experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of frozen sweet corn. At the same time, Israel (+53.6%), Taiwan (Chinese) (+29.8%), Vietnam (+21.6%), Singapore (+8.6%), the United Arab Emirates (+4.4%), Oman (+3.8%), Kuwait (+2.2%) and Malaysia (+1.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Israel emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Asia, with a CAGR of +53.6% from 2012-2021. Hong Kong SAR and China experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Iran (-2.4%) and Saudi Arabia (-2.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Israel (+3.5 p.p.), Taiwan (Chinese) (+2.9 p.p.), Vietnam (+1.7 p.p.) and Singapore (+1.7 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Iran, Saudi Arabia and Japan saw its share reduced by -1.6%, -2.6% and -4.1% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Japan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported frozen sweet corn in Asia, comprising 47% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by China ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by Saudi Arabia, with a 7.3% share.

In Japan, frozen sweet corn imports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: China (-0.5% per year) and Saudi Arabia (-2.3% per year).
