The Asian sugary soft drink market contracted modestly to $X in 2022, therefore, remained relatively stable against the previous year. The following exporters - Kuwait (X litres), Japan (X litres), Indonesia (X litres) and Vietnam (X litres) - together made up 9.1% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by Kuwait (with a CAGR of +32.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest sugary soft drink supplier in Asia, comprising 23% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by South Korea ($X), with an 11% share of total exports. It was followed by Japan, with a 7.1% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Turkey amounted to +15.6%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: South Korea (+10.1% per year) and Japan (+6.2% per year).

The countries with the highest levels of sugary soft drink imports in 2022 were Kazakhstan (X litres), Cambodia (X litres), Singapore (X litres), Turkey (X litres), China (X litres), Kyrgyzstan (X litres), the United Arab Emirates (X litres), Yemen (X litres), Uzbekistan (X litres), Cyprus (X litres), Vietnam (X litres) and Indonesia (X litres), together accounting for 68% of total import. Syrian Arab Republic (X litres) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Uzbekistan (with a CAGR of +64.8%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Cambodia ($X), Kazakhstan ($X) and Turkey ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together accounting for 30% of total imports. China, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, Vietnam, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Cyprus, Yemen, Indonesia and Syrian Arab Republic lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 35%.

Uzbekistan, with a CAGR of +61.9%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Asia stood at $X per litre in 2022, standing approx. at the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the import price increased by 7.9%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per litre), while Syrian Arab Republic ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.
