The Asian table linen market expanded to $X in 2022, growing by 3.2% against the previous year. Overall, consumption recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, table linen production declined slightly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the production volume increased by 23% against the previous year. As a result, production reached the peak level of $X. Table linen exports shrank slightly to X tons in 2022, which is down by -2% against the previous year's figure. Overall, exports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 26%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, table linen exports rose sharply to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 36%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

China dominates exports structure, finishing at X tons, which was near 76% of total exports in 2022. Pakistan (X tons) held a 9.4% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by India (7.3%). Turkey (X tons) took a little share of total exports.

China experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of table linen, knitted or crocheted. At the same time, Pakistan (+6.2%) and Turkey (+1.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Pakistan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Asia, with a CAGR of +6.2% from 2012-2022. By contrast, India (-4.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Pakistan (+4.6 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of India (-3.2 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest table linen supplier in Asia, comprising 77% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by India ($X), with an 8.3% share of total exports. It was followed by Pakistan, with a 7.9% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in China was relatively modest. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: India (+2.9% per year) and Pakistan (+6.8% per year).

The export price in Asia stood at $X per ton in 2022, growing by 7.5% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 33% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, major exporting countries recorded the following prices: in India ($X per ton) and China ($X per ton), while Pakistan ($X per ton) and Turkey ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

In 2022, purchases abroad of table linen, knitted or crocheted increased by 5.3% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after three years of decline. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a slight decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 19% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, table linen imports reached $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a perceptible setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 14%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Japan (X tons), Malaysia (X tons) and Israel (X tons) was the largest importer of table linen, knitted or crocheted in Asia, mixing up 35% of total import. The United Arab Emirates (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a 7.1% share, followed by Iraq (5.8%) and South Korea (5.1%). Azerbaijan (X tons), Kyrgyzstan (X tons), Hong Kong SAR (X tons), Singapore (X tons), Kazakhstan (X tons), China (X tons) and Thailand (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Azerbaijan (with a CAGR of +37.8%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Japan ($X), Israel ($X) and the United Arab Emirates ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together comprising 41% of total imports. Malaysia, South Korea, Iraq, Singapore, Hong Kong SAR, China, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Thailand and Kyrgyzstan lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 36%.

Among the main importing countries, Kyrgyzstan, with a CAGR of +35.3%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in Asia amounted to $X per ton, leveling off at the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 7.6%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2022, the import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per ton), while Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
