In 2022, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in overseas shipments of teleferics, chair-lifts, ski-draglines and traction mechanisms for funiculars, when their volume increased by 100% to X units. Overall, exports, however, recorded a noticeable descent. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, teleferics and chair-lifts exports soared to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 29% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
China was the key exporter of teleferics, chair-lifts, ski-draglines and traction mechanisms for funiculars in Asia, with the volume of exports finishing at X units, which was approx. 67% of total exports in 2022. Taiwan (Chinese) (X units) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 14% share, followed by Thailand (7.1%) and India (4.8%). The following exporters - Georgia (X units), South Korea (X units) and the United Arab Emirates (X units) - each amounted to a 7.1% share of total exports.
China was also the fastest-growing in terms of the teleferics, chair-lifts, ski-draglines and traction mechanisms for funiculars exports, with a CAGR of +5.1% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Thailand (+4.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. India, Georgia and the United Arab Emirates experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, South Korea (-10.4%) and Taiwan (Chinese) (-14.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of China, Thailand, Georgia, the United Arab Emirates and India increased by +39, +3.9, +2.4, +2.4 and +1.5 percentage points, respectively.
In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest teleferics and chair-lifts supplier in Asia, comprising 57% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by India ($X), with a 23% share of total exports. It was followed by Thailand, with a 4.6% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in China totaled -3.9%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: India (+7.1% per year) and Thailand (-12.5% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in Asia amounted to $X per unit, with a decrease of -40% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a abrupt contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the export price increased by 23%. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was India ($X per unit), while Georgia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (+5.2%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in Asia
In 2022, imports of teleferics, chair-lifts, ski-draglines and traction mechanisms for funiculars in Asia skyrocketed to X units, rising by 92% compared with the previous year's figure. Overall, imports saw a prominent expansion. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, teleferics and chair-lifts imports contracted sharply to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a pronounced downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 28% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Singapore dominates imports structure, amounting to X units, which was near 70% of total imports in 2022. Vietnam (X units) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 6.1% share, followed by South Korea (4.6%). The following importers - China (X units), Thailand (X units), Armenia (X units) and Georgia (X units) - together made up 10% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to teleferics and chair-lifts imports into Singapore stood at +34.3%. At the same time, Armenia (+76.2%), Thailand (+34.2%), Vietnam (+7.9%) and South Korea (+2.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Armenia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Asia, with a CAGR of +76.2% from 2012-2022. By contrast, China (-4.8%) and Georgia (-10.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Singapore (+63 p.p.), Armenia (+2.3 p.p.) and Thailand (+2.3 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while South Korea, Georgia and China saw its share reduced by -2.8%, -8% and -8.8% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the largest teleferics and chair-lifts importing markets in Asia were South Korea ($X), Vietnam ($X) and China ($X), with a combined 60% share of total imports. Armenia, Georgia, Singapore and Thailand lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 12%.
Among the main importing countries, Armenia, with a CAGR of +115.9%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Asia amounted to $X per unit, reducing by -65.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a deep downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the import price increased by 91% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2018 to 2022, the import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($X per unit), while Thailand ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Armenia (+12.8%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
