Television Receiver Market Size in Asia

The Asian television receiver market dropped modestly to $X in 2022, which is down by -2.7% against the previous year. In general, consumption saw a noticeable downturn. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, television receiver production dropped slightly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production continues to indicate a mild setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when the production volume increased by 4.1% against the previous year. In 2022, overseas shipments of television receivers decreased by -7.7% to X units, falling for the third year in a row after two years of growth. Over the period under review, exports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 18% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X units in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, television receiver exports reduced dramatically to $X in 2022. Overall, exports recorded a slight contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 21% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

China dominates exports structure, amounting to X units, which was near 77% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Vietnam (X units), achieving a 7.6% share of total exports. The following exporters - Turkey (X units), Thailand (X units), Indonesia (X units), Taiwan (Chinese) (X units) and the Philippines (X units) - each amounted to an 11% share of total exports.

China experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of television receivers. At the same time, the Philippines (+148.4%), Vietnam (+25.4%) and Thailand (+1.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the Philippines emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Asia, with a CAGR of +148.4% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Turkey (-5.8%), Indonesia (-5.9%) and Taiwan (Chinese) (-6.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. China (+7.1 p.p.), Vietnam (+6.9 p.p.) and the Philippines (+1.5 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Indonesia, Turkey and Taiwan (Chinese) saw its share reduced by -1.8%, -1.8% and -2% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest television receiver supplier in Asia, comprising 62% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Vietnam ($X), with a 12% share of total exports. It was followed by Indonesia, with a 7.9% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in China was relatively modest. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Vietnam (+30.3% per year) and Indonesia (+4.3% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in Asia amounted to $X per unit, with a decrease of -10.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a slight downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 an increase of 23%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per unit, and then reduced in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($X per unit), while the Philippines ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

In 2022, imports of television receivers in Asia contracted sharply to X units, reducing by -25.8% compared with the previous year's figure. Overall, imports showed a perceptible curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 15% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X units in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 20% against the previous year. Japan (X units), the United Arab Emirates (X units), South Korea (X units), India (X units), Hong Kong SAR (X units), Thailand (X units), Iraq (X units), Singapore (X units), Vietnam (X units), the Philippines (X units), Israel (X units) and Malaysia (X units) represented roughly 79% of total imports in 2022. Taiwan (Chinese) (X units) took a little share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by South Korea (with a CAGR of +10.6%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest television receiver importing markets in Asia were Japan ($X), South Korea ($X) and the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a combined 45% share of total imports. Thailand, Vietnam, Iraq, Hong Kong SAR, Israel, the Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia, India and Taiwan (Chinese) lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 33%.

In terms of the main importing countries, Malaysia, with a CAGR of +17.0%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in Asia amounted to $X per unit, surging by 13% against the previous year. Import price indicated a noticeable increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, television receiver import price increased by +69.6% against 2016 indices. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per unit), while India ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
