In value terms, temporarily preserved vegetable exports stood at $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when exports increased by 9.5% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
China (X tons) and India (X tons) prevails in exports structure, together making up 84% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Syrian Arab Republic (X tons), creating a 4.9% share of total exports. The following exporters - Iran (X tons), Turkey (X tons), Uzbekistan (X tons) and Vietnam (X tons) - each amounted to a 7.4% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by Iran (with a CAGR of +19.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest temporarily preserved vegetable supplier in Asia, comprising 51% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by India ($X), with a 25% share of total exports. It was followed by Syrian Arab Republic, with an 8.2% share.
In China, temporarily preserved vegetable exports contracted by an average annual rate of -1.9% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: India (+4.8% per year) and Syrian Arab Republic (+13.3% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Asia stood at $X per ton in 2022, growing by 4.7% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.4%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 13% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Uzbekistan ($X per ton), while India ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2022, purchases abroad of vegetables (temporarily preserved) was finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2017, thus ending a four-year declining trend. In general, imports, however, saw a pronounced decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 8.6%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, temporarily preserved vegetable imports expanded to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, saw a pronounced reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when imports increased by 5.7% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Japan (X tons) and South Korea (X tons) were the major importers of vegetables (temporarily preserved) in Asia, together finishing at approx. 67% of total imports. Turkey (X tons) took an 8.5% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Taiwan (Chinese) (4.9%). The following importers - Thailand (X tons), China (X tons) and Armenia (X tons) - together made up 6.3% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Taiwan (Chinese) (with a CAGR of +10.9%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Japan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported vegetables (temporarily preserved) in Asia, comprising 42% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by South Korea ($X), with a 15% share of total imports. It was followed by Turkey, with a 15% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Japan amounted to -4.2%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: South Korea (+1.6% per year) and Turkey (+5.0% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Asia stood at $X per ton in 2022, waning by -1.9% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.3%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when the import price increased by 9.7%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2022, the import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per ton), while South Korea ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
