Over the period under review, consumption saw a relatively flat trend pattern. In 2021, the amount of transporter cranes, gantry cranes and bridge cranes exported in Asia rose significantly to X units, increasing by 7% against 2020 figures. In general, exports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 58%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X units. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, transporter and bridge cranes exports amounted to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, saw a mild reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 42% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

China dominates exports structure, amounting to X units, which was near 81% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Japan (X units), generating a 6.1% share of total exports. Thailand (X units), South Korea (X units) and Turkey (X units) took a little share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to transporter and bridge cranes exports from China stood at +2.6%. At the same time, Thailand (+38.3%), Turkey (+3.0%) and Japan (+2.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Thailand emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Asia, with a CAGR of +38.3% from 2012-2021. By contrast, South Korea (-8.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. China (+12 p.p.) and Thailand (+3.3 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while South Korea saw its share reduced by -3.4% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest transporter and bridge cranes supplier in Asia, comprising 82% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Japan ($X), with a 7.1% share of total exports. It was followed by Thailand, with a 2.9% share.

In China, transporter and bridge cranes exports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Japan (+2.2% per year) and Thailand (+30.6% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Asia stood at $X per unit in 2021, rising by 1.6% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a pronounced setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when the export price increased by 22%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2016 to 2021, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per unit), while South Korea ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Japan (-0.3%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in Asia

In 2021, supplies from abroad of transporter cranes, gantry cranes and bridge cranes was finally on the rise to reach X units after four years of decline. Overall, imports, however, showed a mild slump. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, transporter and bridge cranes imports surged to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, recorded a pronounced descent. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Singapore (X units), distantly followed by South Korea (X units), India (X units), Turkey (X units), Vietnam (X units), Indonesia (X units) and Qatar (X units) represented the main importers of transporter cranes, gantry cranes and bridge cranes, together creating 80% of total imports. Thailand (X units), Malaysia (X units), Oman (X units), the Philippines (X units), Bangladesh (X units) and Taiwan (Chinese) (X units) took a minor share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Qatar (with a CAGR of +22.1%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Singapore ($X), South Korea ($X) and India ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together comprising 58% of total imports. Vietnam, Turkey, Thailand, Qatar, the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Oman, Taiwan (Chinese) and Bangladesh lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 34%.

Among the main importing countries, Qatar, with a CAGR of +37.5%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Asia stood at $X per unit in 2021, growing by 7.4% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 8.5%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2014 to 2021, the import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Philippines ($X per unit), while Indonesia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Qatar (+12.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
