Turkey Meat Market Size in Asia
In 2022, the Asian turkey meat market increased by 2.4% to $X, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. Overall, consumption, however, saw a perceptible slump. Over the period under review, the market reached the maximum level at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Turkey Meat Production in Asia
In value terms, turkey meat production reduced to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the production volume increased by 27% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production hit record highs at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, production failed to regain momentum.
The countries with the highest volumes of production in 2022 were Israel (X tons), Turkey (X tons) and Kazakhstan (X tons), with a combined 93% share of total production.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of production, amongst the key producing countries, was attained by Kazakhstan (with a CAGR of +10.3%), while production for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
The average turkey meat yield expanded slightly to X kg per head in 2022, growing by 2.5% compared with the previous year. Over the period under review, the yield, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when the yield increased by 20%. Over the period under review, the turkey meat yield attained the peak level at X kg per head in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the yield stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In 2022, approx. X heads of animals slaughtered for turkey meat production in Asia; stabilizing at 2021 figures. This number increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when the number of producing animals increased by 24%. As a result, the amount of producing animals reached the peak level of X heads. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of this number failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, shipments abroad of turkey meat decreased by -39.2% to X tons, falling for the third consecutive year after two years of growth. Overall, exports continue to indicate a abrupt decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 51% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, turkey meat exports fell rapidly to $X in 2022. In general, exports showed a drastic downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 36% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Turkey was the main exporting country with an export of around X tons, which finished at 56% of total exports. Kazakhstan (X tons) held a 15% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by China (5.8%). Israel (X tons), the United Arab Emirates (X tons), Hong Kong SAR (X tons), Vietnam (X tons), Lebanon (X tons) and India (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to turkey meat exports from Turkey stood at +6.6%. At the same time, Lebanon (+33.0%), Vietnam (+31.2%), China (+18.0%), India (+4.4%) and Kazakhstan (+2.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Lebanon emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Asia, with a CAGR of +33.0% from 2012-2022. By contrast, the United Arab Emirates (-2.7%), Hong Kong SAR (-22.7%) and Israel (-25.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Turkey (+43 p.p.), Kazakhstan (+10 p.p.), China (+5.3 p.p.), Vietnam (+2.6 p.p.), Lebanon (+2.2 p.p.), the United Arab Emirates (+1.6 p.p.) and India (+1.6 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Hong Kong SAR (-15.2 p.p.) and Israel (-31.5 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, Turkey ($X) emerged as the largest turkey meat supplier in Asia, comprising 59% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 15% share of total exports. It was followed by Israel, with a 6.4% share.
In Turkey, turkey meat exports increased at an average annual rate of +7.9% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Kazakhstan (+0.2% per year) and Israel (-26.4% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in Asia amounted to $X per ton, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a noticeable decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when the export price increased by 13%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Israel ($X per ton), while Lebanon ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2022, purchases abroad of turkey meat decreased by -5.9% to X tons, falling for the third year in a row after two years of growth. Overall, imports saw a abrupt decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 19% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, turkey meat imports rose rapidly to $X in 2022. In general, imports recorded a deep slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 31% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
China was the major importer of turkey meat in Asia, with the volume of imports amounting to X tons, which was near 35% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Palestine (X tons), the United Arab Emirates (X tons) and Vietnam (X tons), together generating a 29% share of total imports. Malaysia (X tons), Azerbaijan (X tons), Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons), Saudi Arabia (X tons), Hong Kong SAR (X tons), Bahrain (X tons), Jordan (X tons) and South Korea (X tons) held a relatively small share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to turkey meat imports into China stood at -9.0%. At the same time, Azerbaijan (+52.8%), Malaysia (+18.7%) and Vietnam (+8.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Azerbaijan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Asia, with a CAGR of +52.8% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Palestine (-1.0%), South Korea (-3.2%), the United Arab Emirates (-4.1%), Bahrain (-6.1%), Taiwan (Chinese) (-14.2%), Jordan (-18.3%), Hong Kong SAR (-22.4%) and Saudi Arabia (-28.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Palestine, Vietnam, China, Azerbaijan, Malaysia and the United Arab Emirates increased by +9.7, +5.9, +5.5, +4.2, +4.1 and +3.6 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, China ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported turkey meat in Asia, comprising 39% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Palestine ($X), with a 14% share of total imports. It was followed by the United Arab Emirates, with a 7.3% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in China amounted to -3.6%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Palestine (-1.8% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (-3.5% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Asia stood at $X per ton in 2022, rising by 12% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.3%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the import price increased by 17%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Saudi Arabia ($X per ton), while Malaysia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
