The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 19% against the previous year. Turkey dominates exports structure, finishing at X tons, which was near 74% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Thailand (X tons), generating a 4.9% share of total exports. Saudi Arabia (X tons), the United Arab Emirates (X tons), Vietnam (X tons) and Oman (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Turkey was also the fastest-growing in terms of the uncooked pasta (not containing eggs) exports, with a CAGR of +12.8% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Vietnam (+9.4%), Saudi Arabia (+4.3%), Thailand (+4.2%) and the United Arab Emirates (+2.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Oman (-8.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Turkey (+20 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Thailand and Oman saw its share reduced by -1.8%, -2.1%, -2.5% and -6.8% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest uncooked pasta (not containing eggs) supplier in Asia, comprising 50% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Thailand ($X), with an 11% share of total exports. It was followed by Saudi Arabia, with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Turkey amounted to +9.9%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Thailand (+4.3% per year) and Saudi Arabia (+7.6% per year).

Total imports indicated prominent growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.2% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +57.1% against 2012 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 18% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons, and then fell in the following year.
