In value terms, preserved and frozen vegetable production dropped to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production continues to indicate a moderate increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 69% against the previous year. The level of production peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, production failed to regain momentum.

For the eighth year in a row, Asia recorded growth in overseas shipments of vegetables (preserved, frozen), which increased by 25% to X tons in 2022. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate buoyant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by 36% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
In value terms, preserved and frozen vegetable exports surged to $X in 2022. Overall, exports recorded a strong expansion. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
China represented the main exporter of vegetables (preserved, frozen) in Asia, with the volume of exports recording X tons, which was approx. 49% of total exports in 2022. India (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 22% share, followed by Turkey (18%). The following exporters - the United Arab Emirates (X tons), Vietnam (X tons) and Saudi Arabia (X tons) - each resulted at a 5.9% share of total exports.
Exports from China increased at an average annual rate of +7.7% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Turkey (+35.5%), India (+26.7%), the United Arab Emirates (+20.6%), Vietnam (+6.4%) and Saudi Arabia (+2.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Turkey emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Asia, with a CAGR of +35.5% from 2012-2022. While the share of Turkey (+16 p.p.) and India (+16 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Saudi Arabia (-2 p.p.) and China (-20.5 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest preserved and frozen vegetable supplier in Asia, comprising 55% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by India ($X), with a 17% share of total exports. It was followed by Turkey, with a 15% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in China stood at +5.6%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: India (+22.9% per year) and Turkey (+28.2% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Asia stood at $X per ton in 2022, increasing by 5.1% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a perceptible reduction. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($X per ton), while Saudi Arabia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Vietnam (+0.8%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in Asia
In 2022, imports of vegetables (preserved, frozen) in Asia rose sharply to X tons, surging by 12% on 2021 figures. Total imports indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +10.0% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
In value terms, preserved and frozen vegetable imports surged to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +21.8% against 2019 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Japan (X tons), distantly followed by Saudi Arabia (X tons), the United Arab Emirates (X tons), Malaysia (X tons), the Philippines (X tons), South Korea (X tons), Indonesia (X tons) and Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons) were the largest importers of vegetables (preserved, frozen), together comprising 73% of total imports. Kuwait (X tons), Thailand (X tons), Jordan (X tons), Vietnam (X tons) and Singapore (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Vietnam (with a CAGR of +28.0%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Japan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported vegetables (preserved, frozen) in Asia, comprising 31% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Saudi Arabia ($X), with an 8.3% share of total imports. It was followed by South Korea, with a 7.7% share.
In Japan, preserved and frozen vegetable imports increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Saudi Arabia (+3.1% per year) and South Korea (+9.7% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Asia stood at $X per ton in 2022, growing by 13% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per ton), while Saudi Arabia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
