In value terms, veneer sheets exports fell to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, posted a strong expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 55%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X, and then shrank in the following year.

Exports by Country

China represented the key exporting country with an export of about X cubic meters, which reached 44% of total exports. Thailand (X cubic meters) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 13% share, followed by Vietnam (11%), Indonesia (9.9%), Myanmar (5.7%) and Turkey (5.7%). India (X cubic meters) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Exports from China increased at an average annual rate of +7.9% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Myanmar (+81.9%), Thailand (+52.0%), Indonesia (+17.5%), India (+15.2%), Turkey (+13.6%) and Vietnam (+13.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Myanmar emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Asia, with a CAGR of +81.9% from 2012-2022. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Thailand, Myanmar, Indonesia and Vietnam increased by +13, +5.7, +4.6 and +2.5 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest veneer sheets supplier in Asia, comprising 59% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Vietnam ($X), with a 14% share of total exports. It was followed by Indonesia, with a 9.2% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in China amounted to +11.2%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Vietnam (+12.9% per year) and Indonesia (+11.9% per year).

In 2022, the export price in Asia amounted to $X per cubic meter, picking up by 58% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded a pronounced shrinkage. In 2022, the amount of veneer sheets imported in Asia totaled X cubic meters, with an increase of 11% on 2021. In general, imports posted a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 68% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, veneer sheets imports rose to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +42.7% against 2020 indices. The following importers - South Korea (X cubic meters), Malaysia (X cubic meters), Cambodia (X cubic meters), Turkey (X cubic meters), Taiwan (Chinese) (X cubic meters), Vietnam (X cubic meters) and Japan (X cubic meters) - together made up 18% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to veneer sheets imports into China stood at +24.6%. At the same time, Cambodia (+36.6%), Vietnam (+16.1%), India (+12.5%), Malaysia (+11.8%), Taiwan (Chinese) (+9.9%), Turkey (+6.9%) and South Korea (+2.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Cambodia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Asia, with a CAGR of +36.6% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Japan (-10.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of China and Cambodia increased by +42 and +2 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest veneer sheets importing markets in Asia were China ($X), India ($X) and Vietnam ($X), together accounting for 57% of total imports. South Korea, Malaysia, Cambodia, Japan, Turkey and Taiwan (Chinese) lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 27%.

Cambodia, with a CAGR of +47.0%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the import price in Asia amounted to $X per cubic meter, shrinking by -6.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a abrupt decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the import price increased by 17% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per cubic meter in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($X per cubic meter), while China ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
