In 2021, approx. X tons of woven fabrics of man-made filaments and staple fibers were exported in Asia; increasing by 23% against the previous year's figure. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.4% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 41% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, man-made filament fabric exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.0% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations in certain years. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
China dominates exports structure, accounting for X tons, which was approx. 80% of total exports in 2021. Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons), Turkey (X tons), South Korea (X tons), India (X tons) and Indonesia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
China was also the fastest-growing in terms of the woven fabrics of man-made filaments and staple fibers exports, with a CAGR of +7.3% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Turkey (+3.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. India experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, South Korea (-3.4%), Taiwan (Chinese) (-4.5%) and Indonesia (-7.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. China (+18 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while South Korea, Indonesia and Taiwan (Chinese) saw its share reduced by -2.9%, -3.3% and -4.1% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest man-made filament fabric supplier in Asia, comprising 71% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by South Korea ($X), with a 4.9% share of total exports. It was followed by Taiwan (Chinese), with a 4.9% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in China amounted to +5.1%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: South Korea (-1.8% per year) and Taiwan (Chinese) (-2.7% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 4.6% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a perceptible reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 31%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2019 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was India ($X per ton), while Indonesia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Taiwan (Chinese) (+1.9%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

In 2021, imports of woven fabrics of man-made filaments and staple fibers in Asia soared to X tons, with an increase of 15% on the previous year's figure. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, man-made filament fabric imports soared to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Vietnam (X tons), Bangladesh (X tons), the United Arab Emirates (X tons), Indonesia (X tons), Myanmar (X tons) and Cambodia (X tons) represented roughly 54% of total imports in 2021. China (X tons), Turkey (X tons), Iraq (X tons), Malaysia (X tons), Iran (X tons), South Korea (X tons) and Kyrgyzstan (X tons) held a little share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Myanmar (with a CAGR of +22.8%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest man-made filament fabric importing markets in Asia were Vietnam ($X), Bangladesh ($X) and the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a combined 39% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Cambodia, China, Indonesia, Myanmar, Turkey, Iraq, South Korea, Iran, Malaysia and Kyrgyzstan, which together accounted for a further 36%.
Myanmar, with a CAGR of +14.7%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 7.2% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a slight shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 an increase of 11% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2021, the import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kyrgyzstan (+2.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
