From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to New Zealand amounted to -10.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: South Korea (0.0% per year) and Vietnam (-0.9% per year).

Overall, imports, however, recorded a abrupt slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 25%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, preserved anchovies imports expanded remarkably to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 16% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
Imports by Country
Italy (X tons), Peru (X tons) and Morocco (X tons) were the main suppliers of preserved anchovies imports to Australia, together comprising 76% of total imports. Spain, France, Chile and South Korea lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 20%.
