In 2021, overseas shipments of air conditioning machines were finally on the rise to reach X units for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, exports, however, showed a abrupt downturn. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, air conditioning machine exports surged to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, recorded a mild decrease. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
In 2021, Australia (X units) represented the key exporter of air conditioning machines, generating 78% of total exports. It was distantly followed by New Zealand (X units), mixing up a 20% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to air conditioning machine exports from Australia stood at -10.3%. At the same time, New Zealand (+4.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, New Zealand emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Australia and Oceania, with a CAGR of +4.8% from 2012-2021. From 2012 to 2021, the share of New Zealand increased by +14 percentage points.
In value terms, the largest air conditioning machine supplying countries in Australia and Oceania were New Zealand ($X) and Australia ($X).

Export Prices by Country
The export price in Australia and Oceania stood at $X per unit in 2021, dropping by -10.7% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, enjoyed a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 238%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per unit. Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was New Zealand ($X per unit), while Australia stood at $X per unit.

Imports in Australia and Oceania
For the fourth consecutive year, Australia and Oceania recorded decline in purchases abroad of air conditioning machines, which decreased by -0.4% to X units in 2021. Total imports indicated a tangible increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -25.2% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 28% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, air conditioning machine imports rose rapidly to $X in 2021. Overall, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 26%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Australia (X units) was the main importer of air conditioning machines, creating 72% of total imports. It was distantly followed by New Zealand (X units), committing a 19% share of total imports. Papua New Guinea (X units) and Fiji (X units) took a minor share of total imports.
Australia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of air conditioning machines. At the same time, New Zealand (+16.5%), Fiji (+6.0%) and Papua New Guinea (+2.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, New Zealand emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Australia and Oceania, with a CAGR of +16.5% from 2012-2021. While the share of New Zealand (+13 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Australia (-12.4 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Australia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported air conditioning machines in Australia and Oceania, comprising 75% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by New Zealand ($X), with a 20% share of total imports. It was followed by Papua New Guinea, with a 1.8% share.
In Australia, air conditioning machine imports decreased by an average annual rate of -2.3% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: New Zealand (+11.5% per year) and Papua New Guinea (-0.8% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Australia and Oceania stood at $X per unit in 2021, with an increase of 5.8% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a pronounced setback. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was New Zealand ($X per unit), while Fiji ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Australia (-3.0%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
