In 2022, overseas shipments of aluminium alloy tubes and pipes were finally on the rise to reach X tons after two years of decline. In general, exports, however, recorded a noticeable reduction. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, aluminium alloy tube exports soared to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when exports increased by 32% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by New Zealand (with a CAGR of +0.5%).

In value terms, the largest aluminium alloy tube supplying countries in Australia and Oceania were Australia ($X) and New Zealand ($X).

New Zealand, with a CAGR of -6.4%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Australia and Oceania stood at $X per ton in 2022, with a decrease of -18.4% against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate a pronounced reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the export price increased by 53%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

After four years of decline, purchases abroad of aluminium alloy tubes and pipes increased by 38% to X tons in 2022. Overall, imports, however, recorded a deep setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 44%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, aluminium alloy tube imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, faced a deep contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 45%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Australia (X tons) represented the key importer of aluminium alloy tubes and pipes, committing 60% of total imports. It was distantly followed by New Zealand (X tons) and Fiji (X tons), together mixing up a 33% share of total imports. Papua New Guinea (X tons) and New Caledonia (X tons) took a relatively small share of total imports.

Imports into Australia decreased at an average annual rate of -15.8% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Fiji (+28.6%) and Papua New Guinea (+3.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Fiji emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Australia and Oceania, with a CAGR of +28.6% from 2012-2022. New Zealand experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, New Caledonia (-10.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of New Zealand (+16 p.p.), Fiji (+12 p.p.) and Papua New Guinea (+2.6 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Australia (-31.6 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Australia ($X), New Zealand ($X) and Fiji ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together accounting for 91% of total imports.

In terms of the main importing countries, Fiji, with a CAGR of +28.3%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Australia and Oceania stood at $X per ton in 2022, which is down by -1.9% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.0%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when the import price increased by 20% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton, and then shrank in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was New Zealand ($X per ton), while Australia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
