Exports in Australia and Oceania
In 2021, overseas shipments of brooms and brushes of twigs increased by 159% to X units for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In general, exports showed a moderate increase. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, twig broom exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports posted slight growth. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Australia was the major exporting country with an export of about X units, which amounted to 71% of total exports. New Zealand (X units) held a 17% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Fiji (9.7%). Papua New Guinea (X units) held a little share of total exports.
Exports from Australia increased at an average annual rate of +5.8% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Papua New Guinea (+49.3%) and New Zealand (+6.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Papua New Guinea emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Australia and Oceania, with a CAGR of +49.3% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Fiji (-5.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Australia (+10 p.p.), New Zealand (+3.7 p.p.) and Papua New Guinea (+2.3 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Fiji (-13.7 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, Australia ($X) remains the largest twig broom supplier in Australia and Oceania, comprising 81% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by New Zealand ($X), with a 9.6% share of total exports. It was followed by Fiji, with an 8% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Australia totaled +1.3%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: New Zealand (+13.5% per year) and Fiji (-2.2% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Australia and Oceania stood at $X per unit in 2021, with a decrease of -14.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a pronounced downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the export price increased by 58%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2020 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Australia ($X per unit), while Papua New Guinea ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by New Zealand (+6.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Australia and Oceania
In 2021, after two years of decline, there was growth in supplies from abroad of brooms and brushes of twigs, when their volume increased by 0.7% to X units. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a slight decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when imports increased by 17% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, twig broom imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
Australia represented the main importer of brooms and brushes of twigs in Australia and Oceania, with the volume of imports accounting for X units, which was approx. 50% of total imports in 2021. New Zealand (X units) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Fiji (X units) and New Caledonia (X units). All these countries together took approx. 41% share of total imports. The following importers - Samoa (X units) and Papua New Guinea (X units) - each recorded a 6.4% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for New Zealand (with a CAGR of +8.8%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest twig broom importing markets in Australia and Oceania were Australia ($X), New Zealand ($X) and Fiji ($X), together accounting for 83% of total imports.
In terms of the main importing countries, New Zealand, with a CAGR of +15.0%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Australia and Oceania stood at $X per unit in 2021, increasing by 17% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Papua New Guinea ($X per unit), while Fiji ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
