Exports in Australia and Oceania
In 2022, overseas shipments of chainsaws with a self-contained non-electric motor were finally on the rise to reach X units after two years of decline. In general, exports enjoyed prominent growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 125%. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, non-electric chainsaw exports reached $X in 2022. Total exports indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +9.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +38.1% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 60%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
New Zealand represented the largest exporting country with an export of about X units, which reached 69% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Australia (X units), making up a 29% share of total exports.
New Zealand was also the fastest-growing in terms of the chainsaws with a self-contained non-electric motor exports, with a CAGR of +20.8% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Australia (+1.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. While the share of New Zealand (+40 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Australia (-38.7 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, New Zealand ($X) and Australia ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022.
Among the main exporting countries, New Zealand, with a CAGR of +19.3%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Australia and Oceania stood at $X per unit in 2022, increasing by 6.5% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a slight reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the export price increased by 52% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Australia ($X per unit), while New Zealand amounted to $X per unit.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Australia (+1.8%).

Imports in Australia and Oceania
In 2022, purchases abroad of chainsaws with a self-contained non-electric motor decreased by -18.1% to X units for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 26%. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2021, and then declined dramatically in the following year.
In value terms, non-electric chainsaw imports expanded notably to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated temperate growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +65.8% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 43%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.
Imports by Country
Australia represented the main importer of chainsaws with a self-contained non-electric motor in Australia and Oceania, with the volume of imports resulting at X units, which was approx. 69% of total imports in 2022. New Zealand (X units) took a 16% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Papua New Guinea (7.1%). The following importers - New Caledonia (X units) and Fiji (X units) - each reached a 3.8% share of total imports.
Australia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of chainsaws with a self-contained non-electric motor. At the same time, New Caledonia (+8.8%), Fiji (+7.0%), Papua New Guinea (+4.1%) and New Zealand (+2.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, New Caledonia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Australia and Oceania, with a CAGR of +8.8% from 2012-2022. From 2012 to 2022, the share of New Zealand and Papua New Guinea increased by +2.1 and +2 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Australia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported chainsaws with a self-contained non-electric motor in Australia and Oceania, comprising 77% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by New Zealand ($X), with a 16% share of total imports. It was followed by Papua New Guinea, with a 2.5% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Australia stood at +3.0%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: New Zealand (+3.0% per year) and Papua New Guinea (-5.7% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Australia and Oceania amounted to $X per unit, surging by 31% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.9%. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Australia ($X per unit), while Papua New Guinea ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Australia (+3.5%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
