Australia (X tons) constituted the country with the largest volume of chili and pepper production, comprising approx. 87% of total volume. Moreover, chili and pepper production in Australia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, New Zealand (X tons), ninefold.

In value terms, chili and pepper exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, showed a perceptible decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 31%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

New Zealand prevails in exports structure, recording X tons, which was approx. 95% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Australia (X tons), achieving a 4.6% share of total exports.
Exports from New Zealand decreased at an average annual rate of -4.6% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Australia (+3.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Australia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Australia and Oceania, with a CAGR of +3.7% from 2012-2022. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Australia increased by +2.6 percentage points.
In value terms, New Zealand ($X) remains the largest chili and pepper supplier in Australia and Oceania, comprising 93% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Australia ($X), with a 6.3% share of total exports.
In New Zealand, chili and pepper exports contracted by an average annual rate of -5.1% over the period from 2012-2022.

The export price in Australia and Oceania stood at $X per ton in 2022, waning by -2.1% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 27%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, chili and pepper imports rose to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a pronounced downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 19% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, Australia (X tons) was the main importer of chilies and peppers (green), creating 49% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Fiji (X tons), French Polynesia (X tons), New Zealand (X tons) and New Caledonia (X tons), together achieving a 43% share of total imports. The following importers - Marshall Islands (X tons) and Samoa (X tons) - each reached a 3.7% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to chili and pepper imports into Australia stood at -7.6%. At the same time, Marshall Islands (+77.8%), Fiji (+14.6%), French Polynesia (+9.5%), Samoa (+7.8%) and New Caledonia (+2.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Marshall Islands emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Australia and Oceania, with a CAGR of +77.8% from 2012-2022. By contrast, New Zealand (-8.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Fiji, French Polynesia, New Caledonia and Marshall Islands increased by +15, +7.9, +3.1 and +1.9 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Australia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported chilies and peppers (green) in Australia and Oceania, comprising 53% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Fiji ($X), with a 22% share of total imports. It was followed by New Zealand, with a 7.1% share.
In Australia, chili and pepper imports shrank by an average annual rate of -6.9% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Fiji (+15.7% per year) and New Zealand (-14.0% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Australia and Oceania amounted to $X per ton, remaining stable against the previous year. In general, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern.
