Over the period under review, production, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when the production volume increased by 83% against the previous year. The level of production peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.
The country with the largest volume of production of coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres was New Zealand (X tons), comprising approx. 91% of total volume. Moreover, production of coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres in New Zealand exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, Samoa (X tons), tenfold.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume in New Zealand was relatively modest.
The average yield of coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres shrank modestly to X kg per ha in 2022, approximately reflecting the previous year. In general, the yield recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the yield increased by 1.6%. Over the period under review, the yield of coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres reached the maximum level at X kg per ha in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the yield failed to regain momentum. Over the period under review, the harvested area dedicated to coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibre production reached the maximum at X ha in 2018; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.

After three years of growth, overseas shipments of coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres decreased by -82.9% to X tons in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 231% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports of hit record highs at X tons in 2021, and then contracted rapidly in the following year.
In value terms, exports of coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres soared to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, posted resilient growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 150%. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in years to come.
Exports by Country
The biggest shipments were from Samoa (X tons), New Caledonia (X tons), Australia (X tons) and New Zealand (X tons), together finishing at 99% of total export.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by Samoa (with a CAGR of +61.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Australia ($X) remains the largest coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibre supplier in Australia and Oceania, comprising 78% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by New Caledonia ($X), with a 7.6% share of total exports. It was followed by Samoa, with a 7.1% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Australia stood at +14.5%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: New Caledonia (+8.2% per year) and Samoa (+70.1% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Australia and Oceania stood at $X per ton in 2022, growing by 645% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a buoyant expansion. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Australia ($X per ton), while Samoa ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports in Australia and Oceania
In 2022, imports of coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres in Australia and Oceania fell rapidly to X tons, with a decrease of -28% against the previous year's figure. In general, imports, however, showed prominent growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 45%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons, and then fell markedly in the following year.
In value terms, imports of coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres shrank significantly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, posted a strong increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 101% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then contracted rapidly in the following year.
Imports by Country
Australia represented the major importer of coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres in Australia and Oceania, with the volume of imports recording X tons, which was near 71% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by New Zealand (X tons), generating a 24% share of total imports. New Caledonia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Australia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres imports, with a CAGR of +7.0% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, New Caledonia (+5.1%) and New Zealand (+4.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. While the share of Australia (+7.8 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of New Zealand (-3.3 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Australia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres in Australia and Oceania, comprising 67% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by New Zealand ($X), with a 29% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Australia totaled +19.8%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: New Zealand (+8.4% per year) and New Caledonia (+2.2% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Australia and Oceania stood at $X per ton in 2022, increasing by 12% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price enjoyed a prominent increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when the import price increased by 38% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was New Zealand ($X per ton), while New Caledonia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
