After three years of decline, the coffee substitutes market in Australia and Oceania increased by 1.2% to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, consumption, however, saw a noticeable reduction. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.
Coffee Substitutes Production in Australia and Oceania
In value terms, coffee substitutes production contracted slightly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, continues to indicate a pronounced decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the production volume increased by 51%. Over the period under review, production hit record highs at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, production remained at a lower figure.

Exports in Australia and Oceania
In 2022, overseas shipments of coffee substitutes containing coffee increased by 6.2% to X tons, rising for the fourth consecutive year after two years of decline. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a pronounced descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 31% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, coffee substitutes exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, recorded a perceptible descent. The level of export peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
In 2022, Australia (X tons) represented the major exporter of coffee substitutes containing coffee, generating 48% of total exports. Fiji (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by New Zealand (X tons). All these countries together held near 49% share of total exports. Papua New Guinea (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by New Zealand (with a CAGR of +69.8%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.
In value terms, Australia ($X) remains the largest coffee substitutes supplier in Australia and Oceania, comprising 72% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Fiji ($X), with a 13% share of total exports. It was followed by New Zealand, with an 11% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Australia amounted to -7.0%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Fiji (+12.2% per year) and New Zealand (+50.3% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Australia and Oceania stood at $X per ton in 2022, with an increase of 21% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a mild decline. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Australia ($X per ton), while New Zealand ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Australia (+1.8%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in Australia and Oceania
For the third year in a row, Australia and Oceania recorded growth in supplies from abroad of coffee substitutes containing coffee, which increased by 28% to X tons in 2022. In general, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 31%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, coffee substitutes imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a modest expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +49.1% against 2019 indices. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
Fiji dominates imports structure, reaching X tons, which was approx. 76% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Australia (X tons), making up an 8.1% share of total imports. The following importers - New Caledonia (X tons), Kiribati (X tons), Tonga (X tons) and Samoa (X tons) - together made up 11% of total imports.
Imports into Fiji increased at an average annual rate of +16.6% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Kiribati (+31.9%) and New Caledonia (+10.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kiribati emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Australia and Oceania, with a CAGR of +31.9% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Tonga (-1.5%), Australia (-16.7%) and Samoa (-17.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Fiji, Kiribati and New Caledonia increased by +58, +3.3 and +2.5 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Fiji ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported coffee substitutes containing coffee in Australia and Oceania, comprising 71% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Australia ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by New Caledonia, with an 8.6% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Fiji amounted to +9.3%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Australia (-11.0% per year) and New Caledonia (+15.1% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Australia and Oceania amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the import price increased by 25% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was New Caledonia ($X per ton), while Tonga ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
