In 2021, the composition leather market in Australia and Oceania was finally on the rise to reach $X after three years of decline. In general, consumption, however, recorded a noticeable downturn. Over the period under review, the market attained the maximum level at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.

Exports in Australia and Oceania
Composition leather exports fell significantly to X square meters in 2021, declining by -45.6% on the previous year. In general, exports recorded a deep downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 159% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X square meters in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, composition leather exports fell remarkably to $X in 2021. Overall, exports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when exports increased by 158% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Australia was the key exporting country with an export of around X square meters, which reached 73% of total exports. It was distantly followed by New Zealand (X square meters), creating a 27% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to composition leather exports from Australia stood at -9.6%. At the same time, New Zealand (+10.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, New Zealand emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Australia and Oceania, with a CAGR of +10.0% from 2012-2021. In 2021, purchases abroad of composition leather was finally on the rise to reach X square meters for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year declining trend. Overall, imports, however, showed a abrupt setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 39% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X square meters. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, composition leather imports surged to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a deep reduction. The level of import peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
Fiji represented the major importer of composition leather in Australia and Oceania, with the volume of imports reaching X square meters, which was near 59% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Australia (X square meters), constituting a 36% share of total imports. Palau (X square meters) took a minor share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Palau (with a CAGR of +48.5%), while imports for the other leaders experienced a decline in the imports figures.
In value terms, Fiji ($X), Australia ($X) and Palau ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together comprising 96% of total imports.
Among the main importing countries, Palau, with a CAGR of +53.5%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline in the imports figures.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Australia and Oceania amounted to $X per square meter, growing by 8.5% against the previous year. Import price indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +6.0% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, composition leather import price increased by +88.1% against 2017 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when the import price increased by 42%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Australia ($X per square meter), while Fiji ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.
