In 2021, Australia (X tons) represented the major exporter of corrugated paper and paperboard, achieving 65% of total exports. New Zealand (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Fiji (X tons). All these countries together held near 34% share of total exports.
Exports from Australia increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, New Zealand (+5.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, New Zealand emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Australia and Oceania, with a CAGR of +5.2% from 2012-2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a noticeable decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 75%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, corrugated paper imports surged to $X in 2021. In general, imports continue to indicate a notable expansion. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Papua New Guinea (X tons) was the largest importer of corrugated paper and paperboard, mixing up 46% of total imports. New Caledonia (X tons) held a 24% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Australia (14%) and Fiji (12%). New Zealand (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by New Caledonia (with a CAGR of +24.1%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest corrugated paper importing markets in Australia and Oceania were Papua New Guinea ($X), New Caledonia ($X) and Australia ($X), with a combined 90% share of total imports.
