In 2021, overseas shipments of dried onions decreased by -59.3% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year rising trend. In value terms, Australia ($X) remains the largest dried onion supplier in Australia and Oceania, comprising 76% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by New Zealand ($X), with a 23% share of total exports.

The export price in Australia and Oceania stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 56% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate prominent growth. For the third consecutive year, Australia and Oceania recorded growth in overseas purchases of dried onions, which increased by 5.3% to X tons in 2021. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 8.2% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, dried onion imports expanded sharply to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 12%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

Australia represented the key importing country with an import of about X tons, which finished at 77% of total imports. It was distantly followed by New Zealand (X tons), comprising a 19% share of total imports. Fiji (X tons) took a relatively small share of total imports.
Imports into Australia increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Fiji (+54.5%) and New Zealand (+2.7%) displayed positive paces of growth.
