In value terms, Australia ($X) remains the largest fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodine supplier in Australia and Oceania, comprising 83% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by New Zealand ($X), with a 16% share of total exports.

In 2021, purchases abroad of fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodines increased by 26% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. Total imports indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.0% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +50.8% against 2019 indices. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodine imports surged to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated perceptible growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +73.6% against 2017 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 38% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

New Zealand was the main importer of fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodines in Australia and Oceania, with the volume of imports accounting for X tons, which was approx. 48% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Fiji (X tons), Papua New Guinea (X tons) and Australia (X tons), together achieving a 47% share of total imports. French Polynesia (X tons) held a minor share of total imports.
New Zealand was also the fastest-growing in terms of the fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodines imports, with a CAGR of +10.4% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Australia (+8.5%), French Polynesia (+3.7%), Papua New Guinea (+3.2%) and Fiji (+1.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. While the share of New Zealand (+15 p.p.) and Australia (+2.5 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Papua New Guinea (-4.5 p.p.) and Fiji (-9.3 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Australia ($X), New Zealand ($X) and Fiji ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 92% share of total imports. Papua New Guinea and French Polynesia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 4.5%.
French Polynesia, with a CAGR of +7.6%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Australia and Oceania stood at $X per ton in 2021, falling by -8.6% against the previous year. In general, the import price saw a perceptible descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when the import price increased by 50% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2021, the import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Australia ($X per ton), while Papua New Guinea ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by French Polynesia (+3.8%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
