The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -10.6% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 34%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, prepared dish and meal imports soared to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +4.0% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 18%. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
Imports by Country
Australia was the key importing country with an import of about X tons, which accounted for 74% of total imports. New Zealand (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by New Caledonia (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 18% share of total imports. Papua New Guinea (X tons) took a minor share of total imports.
Australia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the prepared dishes and meals imports, with a CAGR of +6.8% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, New Caledonia (+6.8%), Papua New Guinea (+3.0%) and New Zealand (+1.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. In value terms, Australia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported prepared dishes and meals in Australia and Oceania, comprising 70% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by New Zealand ($X), with a 19% share of total imports. It was followed by Papua New Guinea, with a 6.2% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Australia totaled +3.3%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: New Zealand (+4.5% per year) and Papua New Guinea (+15.6% per year).
Import Prices by Country
