In value terms, gummed paper exports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, saw a abrupt setback. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Australia (X tons) and New Zealand (X tons) prevails in exports structure, together mixing up 98% of total exports. Fiji (X tons) took a relatively small share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Fiji (with a CAGR of +12.8%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline in the exports figures.
In value terms, Australia ($X) emerged as the largest gummed paper supplier in Australia and Oceania, comprising 72% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by New Zealand ($X), with a 27% share of total exports.

In 2021, overseas purchases of gummed paper and paperboard (excluding self-adhesives) increased by 63% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In general, imports recorded a prominent expansion. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, gummed paper imports surged to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.0% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +104.1% against 2016 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Australia (X tons) was the main importer of gummed paper and paperboard (excluding self-adhesives), creating 69% of total imports. New Zealand (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Fiji (X tons). All these countries together held near 25% share of total imports. The following importers - Papua New Guinea (X tons) and Cook Islands (X tons) - together made up 4.7% of total imports.
Imports into Australia increased at an average annual rate of +8.2% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Fiji (+34.2%), Papua New Guinea (+23.9%) and New Zealand (+7.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Fiji emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Australia and Oceania, with a CAGR of +34.2% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Cook Islands (-9.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Fiji (+6.8 p.p.) and Papua New Guinea (+2.1 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Cook Islands saw its share reduced by -7.2% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Australia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported gummed paper and paperboard (excluding self-adhesives) in Australia and Oceania, comprising 70% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by New Zealand ($X), with a 22% share of total imports. It was followed by Fiji, with a 3.4% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Australia totaled +6.0%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: New Zealand (+7.1% per year) and Fiji (+8.8% per year).
