Exports in Australia and Oceania
In 2022, overseas shipments of halogenated derivatives of hydrocarbons increased by 54% to X tons, rising for the third consecutive year after four years of decline. Total exports indicated a mild increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +68.0% against 2019 indices. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, halogenated hydrocarbon derivative exports rose remarkably to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 45%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
New Zealand was the main exporting country with an export of about X tons, which resulted at 74% of total exports. Fiji (X tons) held a 12% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Australia (9.6%). Papua New Guinea (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Exports from New Zealand increased at an average annual rate of +18.7% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Papua New Guinea (+37.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Papua New Guinea emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Australia and Oceania, with a CAGR of +37.8% from 2012-2022. Fiji experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Australia (-16.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of New Zealand and Papua New Guinea increased by +59 and +3.7 percentage points, respectively.
In value terms, New Zealand ($X) emerged as the largest halogenated hydrocarbon derivative supplier in Australia and Oceania, comprising 66% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Australia ($X), with a 21% share of total exports. It was followed by Fiji, with a 9.2% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in New Zealand amounted to +15.9%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Australia (-11.5% per year) and Fiji (-6.8% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Australia and Oceania stood at $X per ton in 2022, with a decrease of -25.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a pronounced decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the export price increased by 62% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2018 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Australia ($X per ton), while Fiji ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Australia (+6.1%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in Australia and Oceania
In 2022, overseas purchases of halogenated derivatives of hydrocarbons decreased by -5.3% to X tons, falling for the fifth consecutive year after two years of growth. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a abrupt decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 39%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, halogenated hydrocarbon derivative imports amounted to $X in 2022. Overall, imports recorded a abrupt setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 52% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
Australia was the major importing country with an import of about X tons, which resulted at 73% of total imports. It was distantly followed by New Zealand (X tons), achieving a 20% share of total imports. Fiji (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Imports into Australia decreased at an average annual rate of -6.2% from 2012 to 2022. New Zealand (-3.6%) and Fiji (-6.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of New Zealand increased by +3.8 percentage points. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Australia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported halogenated derivatives of hydrocarbons in Australia and Oceania, comprising 71% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by New Zealand ($X), with a 23% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Australia stood at -8.7%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: New Zealand (-0.4% per year) and Fiji (-6.9% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Australia and Oceania amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 14% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, showed a slight shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 24%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
