Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a abrupt downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 142% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Australia represented the largest importing country with an import of around X tons, which amounted to 54% of total imports. Papua New Guinea (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Vanuatu (X tons) and American Samoa (X tons). All these countries together took near 32% share of total imports. The following importers - Solomon Islands (X tons), Tonga (X tons) and Samoa (X tons) - together made up 8.9% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to hot-rolled free-cutting steel imports into Australia stood at -15.7%. At the same time, Tonga (+54.4%), Vanuatu (+23.6%), American Samoa (+22.1%) and Solomon Islands (+9.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. The second position in the ranking was held by Papua New Guinea ($X), with a 14% share of total imports. It was followed by Vanuatu, with a 4.1% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Australia totaled -11.6%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Papua New Guinea (-13.8% per year) and Vanuatu (+24.6% per year).
