Knife and scissors exports surged to X tons in 2021, rising by 26% on 2020 figures. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a abrupt downturn. Australia represented the main exporting country with an export of around X tons, which reached 61% of total exports. It was distantly followed by New Zealand (X tons), constituting a 34% share of total exports. New Caledonia (X tons) took a minor share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by New Caledonia (with a CAGR of +13.3%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the exports figures.
In value terms, the largest knife and scissors supplying countries in Australia and Oceania were Australia ($X), New Zealand ($X) and New Caledonia ($X), together comprising 100% of total exports.
New Zealand, with a CAGR of +0.1%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline in the exports figures.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Australia and Oceania stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 20% against the previous year. Export price indicated a noticeable increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 an increase of 75% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

Imports in Australia and Oceania
In 2021, purchases abroad of knives, scissors and blades increased by 34% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after five years of decline. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a slight curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 36%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, knife and scissors imports soared to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.0% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +78.9% against 2019 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Australia (X tons) represented the largest importer of knives, scissors and blades, comprising 82% of total imports. It was distantly followed by New Zealand (X tons), creating a 13% share of total imports. Papua New Guinea (X tons) took a minor share of total imports.
Australia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of knives, scissors and blades.
