Exports in Australia and Oceania
In 2021, shipments abroad of fishing rods and other line fishing tackle increased by 35% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after three years of decline. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by 38% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, fishing rod exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.4% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +64.9% against 2019 indices. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
In 2021, New Zealand (X tons) and Australia (X tons) represented the largest exporters of fishing rods and other line fishing tackle in Australia and Oceania, together amounting to approx. 84% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Fiji (X tons), mixing up a 16% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Fiji (with a CAGR of +12.0%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.
In value terms, New Zealand ($X), Australia ($X) and Fiji ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, together accounting for 100% of total exports.
Fiji, with a CAGR of +17.4%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Australia and Oceania stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 7.2% against the previous year. Export price indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +6.9% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, fishing rod export price increased by +82.2% against 2012 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the export price increased by 21% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Australia ($X per ton), while Fiji ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by New Zealand (+7.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, purchases abroad of fishing rods and other line fishing tackle was finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year declining trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a deep slump. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, fishing rod imports surged to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a tangible expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Australia (X tons) was the major importer of fishing rods and other line fishing tackle, comprising 74% of total imports. It was distantly followed by New Zealand (X tons), creating an 18% share of total imports. The following importers - Papua New Guinea (X tons) and New Caledonia (X tons) - each reached a 4% share of total imports.
Imports into Australia decreased at an average annual rate of -7.2% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Papua New Guinea (+7.0%) and New Caledonia (+3.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Papua New Guinea emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Australia and Oceania, with a CAGR of +7.0% from 2012-2021. By contrast, New Zealand (-3.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of New Zealand increased by +4.5 percentage points. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Australia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported fishing rods and other line fishing tackle in Australia and Oceania, comprising 78% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by New Zealand ($X), with an 18% share of total imports. It was followed by New Caledonia, with a 1.3% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Australia amounted to +3.8%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: New Zealand (+4.7% per year) and New Caledonia (+3.1% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Australia and Oceania stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 8.6% against the previous year. Overall, the import price recorded a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 55% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Australia ($X per ton), while Papua New Guinea ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Australia (+11.8%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
