New Caledonia was the largest importer of marble and travertine in Australia and Oceania, with the volume of imports finishing at X tons, which was near 52% of total imports in 2021. Australia (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by French Polynesia (X tons), Palau (X tons) and New Zealand (X tons). All these countries together held near 47% share of total imports.
Imports into New Caledonia increased at an average annual rate of +12.8% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Palau (+36.2%) and French Polynesia (+21.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Palau emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Australia and Oceania, with a CAGR of +36.2% from 2012-2021. Australia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, New Zealand (-6.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of New Caledonia (+29 p.p.), French Polynesia (+8.7 p.p.) and Palau (+5.1 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of New Zealand (-6.7 p.p.) and Australia (-10.4 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, New Caledonia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported marble and travertine in Australia and Oceania, comprising 97% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Australia ($X), with a 1.7% share of total imports. It was followed by New Zealand, with a 0.5% share.
In New Caledonia, marble and travertine imports increased at an average annual rate of +19.7% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Australia (-3.8% per year) and New Zealand (-7.3% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Australia and Oceania amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 8.5% against the previous year. Overall, the import price enjoyed resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the import price increased by 1,928% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton.
