The country with the largest volume of camel and other animal meat production was Papua New Guinea (X tons), comprising approx. 90% of total volume. Moreover, camel and other animal meat production in Papua New Guinea exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, New Zealand (X tons), more than tenfold.
In Papua New Guinea, camel and other animal meat production expanded at an average annual rate of +1.1% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: New Zealand (-1.5% per year) and Australia (+1.2% per year).

In 2022, approx. X tons of meat of camels and other animals were exported in Australia and Oceania; increasing by 31% on the year before. Overall, exports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, camel and other animal meat exports surged to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
New Zealand represented the key exporter of meat of camels and other animals in Australia and Oceania, with the volume of exports resulting at X tons, which was near 88% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Australia (X tons), creating a 12% share of total exports.
New Zealand was also the fastest-growing in terms of the meat of camels and other animals exports, with a CAGR of +1.9% from 2012 to 2022. Australia (-6.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. New Zealand (+13 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Australia saw its share reduced by -12.7% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.

In 2022, the export price in Australia and Oceania amounted to $X per ton, surging by 16% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was New Zealand ($X per ton), while Australia stood at $X per ton.

In 2022, overseas purchases of meat of camels and other animals increased by 11% to X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In general, imports, however, saw a deep setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when imports increased by 14% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, camel and other animal meat imports rose remarkably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a abrupt descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 21% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Papua New Guinea (X tons) represented the major importer of meat of camels and other animals, mixing up 69% of total imports. Tonga (X tons) took a 17% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Samoa (5.6%). Australia (X tons) and French Polynesia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to camel and other animal meat imports into Papua New Guinea stood at -9.0%. At the same time, Tonga (+56.4%) and Samoa (+21.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Tonga emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Australia and Oceania, with a CAGR of +56.4% from 2012-2022. By contrast, French Polynesia (-4.4%) and Australia (-16.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Tonga and Samoa increased by +17 and +5.2 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Papua New Guinea ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported meat of camels and other animals in Australia and Oceania, comprising 66% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Samoa ($X), with a 10% share of total imports. It was followed by Australia, with an 8.7% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Papua New Guinea stood at -9.1%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Samoa (+25.6% per year) and Australia (-17.6% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Australia and Oceania amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 2.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a perceptible slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 93% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2021 to 2022, the import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Australia ($X per ton), while Tonga ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Samoa (+3.2%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
