Exports in Australia and Oceania

In 2021, overseas shipments of nitrites decreased by -36.9% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after four years of growth. In general, exports, however, saw a buoyant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 217% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, nitrites exports dropped dramatically to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a strong increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 246% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

The shipments of the one major exporters of nitrites, namely Australia, represented more than two-thirds of total export.

Australia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the nitrites exports, with a CAGR of +15.2% from 2012 to 2021. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Australia increased by +3.2 percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Australia ($X) also remains the largest nitrites supplier in Australia and Oceania.

For the third consecutive year, Australia and Oceania recorded growth in overseas purchases of nitrites, which increased by 3.5% to X tons in 2021. Total imports indicated a noticeable increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +73.5% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 46% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, nitrites imports surged to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.0% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +159.3% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 75% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

Australia prevails in imports structure, amounting to X tons, which was approx. 96% of total imports in 2021. New Zealand (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Australia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the nitrites imports, with a CAGR of +2.7% from 2012 to 2021. New Zealand (-5.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of New Zealand decreased by -2.3 percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Australia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported nitrites in Australia and Oceania, comprising 92% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by New Zealand ($X), with a 3% share of total imports.
