In value terms, nutmeg, mace and cardamom exports surged to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a noticeable descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 66%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, purchases abroad of nutmeg, mace and cardamoms increased by 13% to X tons, rising for the third consecutive year after three years of decline. In general, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 25%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, nutmeg, mace and cardamom imports fell markedly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports posted a noticeable expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 51%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2021, and then shrank dramatically in the following year.
Imports by Country
Australia was the largest importer of nutmeg, mace and cardamoms in Australia and Oceania, with the volume of imports accounting for X tons, which was near 81% of total imports in 2022. New Zealand (X tons) held a 10% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Fiji (7.8%).
Australia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of nutmeg, mace and cardamoms. At the same time, Fiji (+12.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Fiji emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Australia and Oceania, with a CAGR of +12.9% from 2012-2022. By contrast, New Zealand (-2.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period.
