The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by 49% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, Australia (X tons) was the key exporter of prepared baking powders, mixing up 57% of total exports. New Zealand (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 29% share, followed by Fiji (14%).

In 2022, after two years of growth, there was decline in overseas purchases of prepared baking powders, when their volume decreased by -2% to X tons. In general, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 15%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, prepared baking powder imports rose sharply to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 14%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
New Zealand represented the major importer of prepared baking powders in Australia and Oceania, with the volume of imports resulting at X tons, which was approx. 41% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Australia (X tons), Samoa (X tons), Tonga (X tons) and Fiji (X tons), together mixing up a 37% share of total imports. Papua New Guinea (X tons), French Polynesia (X tons), Solomon Islands (X tons), Kiribati (X tons) and New Caledonia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
New Zealand experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of prepared baking powders. At the same time, Fiji (+44.1%), Tonga (+11.0%), Kiribati (+4.7%), Samoa (+3.2%) and New Caledonia (+2.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Fiji emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Australia and Oceania, with a CAGR of +44.1% from 2012-2022. Solomon Islands and Australia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, French Polynesia (-6.5%) and Papua New Guinea (-13.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Fiji, New Zealand, Samoa and Tonga increased by +4.4, +4.3, +3.2 and +3.1 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, New Zealand ($X), Australia ($X) and Samoa ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together accounting for 73% of total imports. French Polynesia, New Caledonia, Tonga, Solomon Islands, Kiribati, Fiji and Papua New Guinea lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 23%.
Among the main importing countries, Fiji, with a CAGR of +32.5%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Australia and Oceania amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 14% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.8%. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Australia ($X per ton), while Papua New Guinea ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
