In 2021, overseas shipments of scouring pastes and powders were finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, exports recorded prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 368%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, scouring pastes and powders exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, exports continue to indicate a perceptible expansion. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, Australia (X tons) was the key exporter of scouring pastes and powders, comprising 79% of total exports. New Zealand (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Fiji (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 21% share of total exports.

In 2021, the amount of scouring pastes and powders imported in Australia and Oceania fell sharply to X tons, with a decrease of -22.7% against 2020. In general, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 19% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, scouring pastes and powders imports declined to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports saw a pronounced slump. The second position in the ranking was taken by New Zealand ($X), with a 25% share of total imports. It was followed by New Caledonia, with a 3.8% share.

In Australia, scouring pastes and powders imports decreased by an average annual rate of -1.1% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: New Zealand (-7.6% per year) and New Caledonia (-5.1% per year).
