Exports in Australia and Oceania
In 2021, overseas shipments of scouring pastes and powders were finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, exports recorded prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 368%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, scouring pastes and powders exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, exports continue to indicate a perceptible expansion. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
In 2021, Australia (X tons) was the key exporter of scouring pastes and powders, comprising 79% of total exports. New Zealand (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Fiji (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 21% share of total exports.
Exports from Australia increased at an average annual rate of +11.1% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, New Zealand (+20.1%) and Fiji (+10.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, New Zealand emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Australia and Oceania, with a CAGR of +20.1% from 2012-2021. While the share of New Zealand (+5.8 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Australia (-5.2 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Australia ($X) remains the largest scouring pastes and powders supplier in Australia and Oceania, comprising 87% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Fiji ($X), with a 6.7% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Australia stood at +3.2%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Fiji (+15.3% per year) and New Zealand (-6.8% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Australia and Oceania stood at $X per ton in 2021, approximately reflecting the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a abrupt decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the export price increased by 133% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Australia ($X per ton), while New Zealand ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Fiji (+4.1%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in Australia and Oceania
In 2021, the amount of scouring pastes and powders imported in Australia and Oceania fell sharply to X tons, with a decrease of -22.7% against 2020. In general, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 19% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, scouring pastes and powders imports declined to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports saw a pronounced slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 26%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Australia (X tons) represented the largest importer of scouring pastes and powders, making up 54% of total imports. New Zealand (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Fiji (X tons) and New Caledonia (X tons). All these countries together took near 41% share of total imports. Solomon Islands (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Australia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of scouring pastes and powders. At the same time, Solomon Islands (+47.9%), Fiji (+41.8%) and New Zealand (+2.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Solomon Islands emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Australia and Oceania, with a CAGR of +47.9% from 2012-2021. By contrast, New Caledonia (-4.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Fiji (+9.7 p.p.), New Zealand (+5.9 p.p.) and Solomon Islands (+2.2 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of New Caledonia (-2.2 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Australia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported scouring pastes and powders in Australia and Oceania, comprising 66% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by New Zealand ($X), with a 25% share of total imports. It was followed by New Caledonia, with a 3.8% share.
In Australia, scouring pastes and powders imports decreased by an average annual rate of -1.1% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: New Zealand (-7.6% per year) and New Caledonia (-5.1% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Australia and Oceania amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 12% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, showed a perceptible curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the import price increased by 17%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Australia ($X per ton), while Solomon Islands ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
