After two years of growth, overseas shipments of seats convertible into beds decreased by -3.2% to X units in 2021. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a deep reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 609%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, bed-convertible seat exports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, exports recorded a abrupt setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when exports increased by 250% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 46%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then shrank notably in the following year.

Imports by Country

Australia prevails in imports structure, accounting for X units, which was near 87% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by New Zealand (X units), creating a 9.6% share of total imports. Papua New Guinea (X units) held a relatively small share of total imports.

Imports into Australia increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Papua New Guinea (+22.1%) and New Zealand (+13.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Papua New Guinea emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Australia and Oceania, with a CAGR of +22.1% from 2012-2021. From 2012 to 2021, the share of New Zealand increased by +5.6 percentage points. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Australia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported seats convertible into beds in Australia and Oceania, comprising 80% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by New Zealand ($X), with a 15% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Australia amounted to +4.0%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: New Zealand (+16.5% per year) and Papua New Guinea (+10.6% per year).
